Custom cabinetry in Fort Myers: planning a kitchen that fits

A kitchen can look beautiful and still make everyday tasks harder than they need to be. Custom cabinetry starts with how you use the room, not just the colour of the doors. For a Fort Myers homeowner, the most useful first step is a clear brief: what should stay, what needs to change, and what you want within easy reach.

Start with the things you store

Make a list of the items that are awkward to put away now: tall trays, heavy pots, countertop appliances or recycling bins. Measure the largest pieces. A drawer that fits your cookware is more useful than an impressive-looking cabinet that leaves it stacked out of reach.

Think about where each task happens. Food preparation, washing up and making coffee may each need a different mix of drawers, shelves and clear work surface. Bring photos of your existing kitchen and note the pinch points.

Choose the finish alongside the layout

Look at wood and finish samples in your own room, in daylight and under the lighting you normally use. The same finish can read differently beside your floor, countertops and wall colour.

Ask how visible edges, end panels and cabinet interiors will be finished. Discuss cleaning and maintenance as well as appearance, and confirm what is included before deciding on a design.

Agree on the details before building

Review door swings, drawer clearance and appliance dimensions together. Identify any electrical, plumbing or countertop work that needs coordination with other trades. A written scope should make responsibilities and the order of work clear.
